Beverwijk – Wijngaarden
Final Piece of the North-South Route
Construction of Gasunie’s ‘gas ring’
A.Hak laid two-thirds of Gasunie’s gas transport pipeline between Beverwijk and Wijngaarden. A project that can rightly be called a work of extremes.
Work was carried out in densely populated areas and on terrain where hardly a truck can reach. The challenges in the field of water management and soil conditions were also significant. The project film further down this page shows how A.Hak tackled the challenges one by one.

The Beverwijk-Wijngaarden project was the final piece for the construction of Gasunie’s ‘gas ring’. The North-South Route, a major expansion of the gas transport network in the Netherlands, plays an important role in this. Many kilometers of extra transport pipelines and a number of new compressor stations make it attractive for traders to transport gas to and via the Netherlands. A.Hak has made an important contribution to the North-South Route since 2008 .
- Route Meeden – Ommen. 88 kilometers of 48″ transport pipeline.
- Compressor station Scheemda. Construction of piping, approximately 2,500 welds. Diameters from 2″ to 48″ and wall thicknesses from 5.5 to 22 mm.
- Route Angerlo – Beuningen. 37 kilometers of 48″ transport pipeline. Innovative working method with ten horizontal directional drillings and several closed front drillings on this short route.
- Route Ommen – Esveld. 36 kilometers of 48″ transport pipeline, including a Direct Pipe drilling with a achieved world distance record of 1,400 meters.
- Compressor station Ommen. Replacing an 18″ pipeline with a 36″ pipeline. The station had to remain operational during the work.
- Compressor station Wijngaarden. Construction of all underground pipelines with diameters from 2″ to 48″.
- Route Hommelhof – Schinnen. 19 kilometers of 48″ transport pipeline in the Limburg hills and the city of Sittard. Working in built-up areas places different demands than in rural areas.
- Route Odiliapeel – Melick. 28 kilometers of 48″ transport pipeline. Crossing the Maas with a Direct Pipe drilling.
