New water pipes for Stede Broec

PWN

A project requiring utmost precision and care

PWN, the drinking water company and nature manager in North Holland, has been supplying high-quality drinking water for over a century. To continue meeting demand in the future, work will be carried out on the pipes from the end of August until the end of January 2024.

Pipes will be drilled along the Provincialeweg N307 into the Nassaupark. We will connect the new pipe to the existing pipe network in the Florasingel. For this, we will dig a trench and lay new pipes through the existing pipes. Using advanced techniques, we connect the pipes with a guided bore. In this way, we ensure that we continue to supply high-quality drinking water to the residents in the future.

For the client PWN, located near Stede Broec in West Friesland, we proudly completed the drilling using our electric 150-tonner. This job involved replacing an existing water pipe with a new 500mm steel pipe. We faced a challenge due to the narrow verge and the wide ditch that we had to maneuver through.

During the tender process, we were asked if we could carry out this project completely energy-neutral. Although 100% energy neutrality was not feasible, we did everything we could to minimize the impact on the environment. Our crane was only moved to the work location once a day, while all our employees cycled back and forth in between. In addition, we used an electric generator and an electric tonner.

The recruitment team responsible for recruiting people in North Holland faces a major challenge. There is a great scarcity in the labor market and this project requires extreme precision and care, as the pipes must remain clean at all times. The importance of supplying clean drinking water makes it necessary for the team to be alert and constantly keep each other sharp.

Moos, assistant supervisor, emphasizes the importance of a clean execution process.

“It is important that the work is carried out in a very hygienic manner. As colleagues, we address each other on behavior. We ensure the quality of the drinking water, so we must deliver clean work.”
