Golden weld for heat network
The green ring road, part of the Dordrecht Heat Network, has been completely finished since March 28, 2019, thanks to the final weld, also known as the ‘golden’ weld.
The golden weld was symbolically sealed on March 28 by alderman Rik van der Linden in a construction pit of A.Hak . With the underground heat ring, the Dordrecht heat network can continue to grow. Van der Linden calls it a new milestone for Dordrecht in making the city more sustainable. ‘Our municipality is at the forefront of the construction of a heat network in urban areas. We are very proud of that.’

The heat network is over 22 kilometers long and was constructed in approximately six years. Arjan ten Elshof, director of Sustainable Energy at HVC, thanks all parties who contributed to this. ‘Not only the people who came up with the main network, but especially the people who installed the heat pipes outside. It is a tough job, sometimes in difficult circumstances. I have a lot of appreciation for that.’ In Dordrecht, approximately 4,700 residential equivalents are now connected to the heat network. By the end of 2019, there will be approximately 6,000. Ten Elshof: ‘This will reduce CO 2 emissions by 6,000 tons. That is comparable to the CO2 reduction of over 35,000 solar panels.’
