WarmtelinQ South Holland
WarmtelinQ: heat for homes in South Holland
Working towards a sustainable future with less CO2 emissions and less natural gas
About 40 percent of the energy used by the Dutch goes to heating. We currently obtain this heat mainly from burning natural gas, which releases CO2. We can reduce CO2 emissions, for example, by using heat released from industrial processes in the Port of Rotterdam. WarmtelinQ uses this heat to warm 120,000 homes in the province of South Holland.
Good and adequate communication
During the work on lot D, we are operating in a challenging area, an urban environment where we must consider the surroundings. This requires good and adequate communication. Additionally, the work is being carried out on a major traffic artery towards The Hague, on the roadway from The Hague to Delft. The HDD drilling, as seen in the footage, takes place under the A4 and an HTM tram line.
Worksite
Later, there will be another drilling under the Sir Winston Churchilllaan. Together, these drillings are almost two kilometers long. To manufacture the pipeline sections, one lane on a part of the Beatrixlaan has been converted into a worksite. This worksite was realized in consultation with the Municipality of Rijswijk and WarmtelinQ, with the aim of minimizing inconvenience to the “busy” traffic.
During the first HDD drilling, the supply pipeline of 1000 meters 600/800 mm steel in steel (SIS) was pulled in, the return pipeline will follow in two weeks. The section was first brought to the location in its entirety and is laid out ready to be pulled into the borehole in one go.
To get the pipeline section to the location, the entire structure was transported 1 kilometer through the city. On the entire route, 2 of the 3 crossing roads must remain open during the operation, at the request of the safety region.
Once the two drillings (supply and return) under the A4 are in place, we will manufacture two new pipeline sections within the designated worksite. With these, we will cross underground the Generaal Spoorlaan and the Churchilllaan.
After these pipeline sections are pulled in, we will lay the remaining pipeline parts in open excavations between the Generaal Spoorlaan and the Middachtenweg (The Hague) where we connect to Lot E. Additionally, a pipeline will be laid between the two drillings and a section will be laid in Rijswijk Buiten up to the connection with Lot C.
