Winner ISTT No-Dig Award 2016

12 October 2016

A.Hak Leidingbouw, one of the shareholders of aQuaintance, won the 2016 ISTT No Dig Annual Award in the category for Project Rehabilitation. The award was presented at the 2016 International No-Dig Gala Conference in Beijing on the evening of 11 October 2016. With over forty very strong applications the selection of the winners proved to be a most difficult process.

A.Hak Leidingbouw won the award with the rehabilitation of a production water pipeline by means of a trenchless pipe-in-pipe method for client Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij BV (NAM). The pipeline is essential to NAM’s oil production location in Schoonebeek, the Netherlands. An HDPE-pipe with steel reinforcements manufactured by FlexSteel, was inserted into the existing steel pipe.

Although a pipe-in-pipe project can hardly be called revolutionary, this project was highly complex. The existing steel pipeline had a total length of 45 kilometers and a very challenging curve. A.Hak Leidingbouw constructed an elaborate test environment to deliver proof of concept. The expertise of A.Hak sister companies and its Equipment Department was used to select and modify the equipment needed to get the job done safely, according to specifications and within planning.

The rehabilitation project was carried out by aQuaintance, NAM’s contract partner for engineering, procurement and construction of onshore projects, formed by shareholders A.Hak Leidingbouw, Tebodin and Engie. Tebodin specializes in engineering, Engie is responsible for the locations and A.Hak Leidingbouw carries out pipeline work, including this relining project.
